The right bed depends on how you use your bedroom, the space around it and the storage you need. Before choosing a fabric or headboard, decide whether a standard upholstered frame, a drawer divan or a lift-up ottoman will work best in your room.
Upholstered bed frames: start with the design
An upholstered frame gives you a wide choice of headboard shapes and detailing. Some designs have a low footboard, while others use a taller footboard or deeper side rails for a more substantial look. Those features affect the finished dimensions, even when two beds take the same mattress size.
Choose an upholstered bed frame if the overall shape is your starting point. Check the options on your chosen model: a frame may offer a standard base, gas-lift storage or a choice of configurations. The photograph alone does not confirm which base is included.
Divan beds: convenient drawer access
A divan bed combines an upholstered base with a headboard. Drawer options can make everyday storage straightforward because you do not need to lift the mattress to reach your belongings. However, drawers need clear space to open.
Look at where your bedside tables, wardrobe and walls will sit. A drawer beside a large bedside cabinet may be difficult to use. If your model offers different drawer positions, choose the arrangement that suits the actual room. Browse our divan beds and check the configurations available on each listing.
Ottoman beds: storage beneath the mattress
An ottoman bed uses a lifting platform to provide access beneath the mattress. It can be a useful choice for spare bedding and other bedroom essentials, particularly when you prefer hidden storage to separate boxes or furniture.
Where both opening directions are available, an end-lift opens from the foot end and a side-lift opens from one side. Think about where you can stand comfortably to operate the bed. You still need access space, even though there are no drawers to pull out. Follow the mechanism instructions supplied with your model and check mattress requirements before ordering.

Measure the finished bed, not just the mattress
A nominal bed size describes the mattress it takes. The finished frame can be larger because of upholstery, side rails, a headboard or a footboard. Use the dimensions on the individual listing when measuring your room.
Allow space for walking, wardrobe doors, drawers and the bed’s lifting mechanism where applicable. Check the headboard height against windows and sloping ceilings. Measure the delivery route too: doorways, stairs and tight turns matter when carrying components into the bedroom.
Check fabrics and colours in your own lighting
A fabric can look different on a screen and in your room. Daylight, warm lamps and nearby wall colours all influence how a shade appears. Order up to five free fabric samples and compare your favourites beside your flooring and bedding before choosing.
Confirm what your selected price includes
Check the selected size, fabric, storage base and any mattress or assembly option before adding your bed to the basket. A mattress is included only when the listing or selected option says it is. If you are choosing one separately, match its size to your bed and check the chosen base’s requirements.
